Your guild's allegiance does not affect your ability to play either side of the storyline. While you need to get 10k kurzick faction to get to the eternal grove mission, you won't need it to complete the black moa series. Your ability to alliance battle is only limited by 2 things, first you gotta be level 20, and second the side you AB on is determined entirely by the guild you are in (or guested into).

Okay. Here's how it goes down.

Once you beat a certain mission, you can get two quests. Journey to Cavalon and Journey to House Zu Heltzer; they let you go to the capitals of each Faction.

There, you get a quest from either side. "Befriend the..." (Name of the Faction)

You are required to get 10k Faction of their side (ie: Befriend the Luxons requires 10k Luxon Faction.) You get Faction from doing quests in that Faction's lands and Faction doesn't disappear until you spend it (so don't spend any until you have 10k, then accept the reward and spend it if you want.) but when you spend one Faction's ...Faction, you spend an equal amount of the other Faction's Faction. I recommend getting your 10k Faction of both sides and completing both quests before spending any so you don't have to go and get more after spending one side's. (Note that completing the 10k Faction quests doesn't spend any Faction; you get to keep the 10k to do whatever you want with.)

A guild can be either Luxon or Kurzick; this affects what side you'll play on when accessing Alliance Battles from your guild hall. There are still Kurzick vs. Luxon Challenge Missions in the PvE areas (accessed through Outposts) in which you can play from either side to gain Faction.

You can still get quests from Kurzicks while in a Luxon guild, you can even talk to their merchants and fight in their side's challenge missions and complete their side's mission. However, if you have more Luxon Faction than Kurzick Faction, their merchants won't talk to you, and you'll have to pay their shrine priests money to access their resurrection shrines in explorable areas. Even if you've achieved say...40k Luxon Faction and only that first 10k Kurzick faction on your account, as long as your current Faction count for Kurzick is higher than the Luxon's, you can talk to the Kurzick merchants. (You get 10 Faction for paying off a shrine priest, so it's a quick way of getting ahead if your Faction points are tied...Noting that your current Faction caps at 10k, so you have to spend some, sometime. You could have spent 10k Luxon, negating the 10k Kurzick, and then spent all the 30k to have 0 Luxon and Kurzick, for instance.)

Note that the Friend of the Kurzicks/Luxons title track will stay as that Faction's title track once you reach the first tier, so if you plan to get the title, only try to spend Faction of the one you want the title of.
Also note that quests you get in explorable areas in a Faction's territory are repeatable to get more points, so don't keep doing them if you're a completionist. =P

Hope this guide helps...
